How to research crypto trends without confusing narrative and adoption

A method for examining real activity, token economics and risks across AI, DeFi, gaming and decentralised networks.

First define what is being used

An application, a network and its token may have different levels of adoption. Before interpreting a growth figure, identify its definition, source and comparison period. Active addresses do not necessarily equal people: one user can control many and bots can generate activity. Transaction counts alone also do not establish revenue, utility or sustained demand.

Separate demand from temporary incentives

An airdrop or reward campaign can attract activity that disappears when the incentive ends. Compare before-and-after periods, participant retention, fees paid and concentration. In token or NFT markets, examine potential trades between related accounts. We do not present an adoption ranking without these definitions: a rising chart may be real without establishing a sustainable economy.

A product can grow without benefiting its token

Examine the token’s use, who receives fees and how supply changes. Fully diluted valuation does not necessarily represent supply available today; future unlocks can change incentives and selling pressure. A small unit price does not imply a small valuation. Also consider whether users can consume the service without holding the token, paying with another asset or through an intermediary.

From presentation to verifiable product

Look for documentation, published code where available, operating history and audits whose scope can be checked. An audit does not guarantee the absence of bugs and open-source code does not establish commercial activity. For AI agents, check who can sign transactions and permission limits. Record missing evidence and what would disprove your hypothesis instead of collecting only favourable announcements.

Before making a decision

  • Defined metric, traceable source and comparable period.
  • Incentives, concentration and unlocks considered.
  • Verifiable product and risks recorded before deciding.
